Through photography, education, and interactive activities for all ages, we’ll explore the beauty and importance of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators that keep the natural world in balance.

To propagate and protect NATIVE plants and ADVOCATE for improving the quality and quantity of HABITAT that benefit our birds, wildlife and people.
Whether you’re a naturalist, photographer, gardener, or simply someone who loves the outdoors, you’re invited. Come spend time in the valley, discover the importance of pollinators, and celebrate the bees, butterflies, and blossoms that make summer a special time.

Heather is an award-winning author and nationally sought-after speaker spending much of her time passionately educating audiences about the fascinating world of native bees and the native plants that support them. Her first book, Pollinators of Native Plants, was published in 2014, and her latest book, Bees, published in 2017, has won six book awards including the 2018 American Horticultural Society Book Award. Heather is a biologist, research assistant, and pollinator educator. Her expertise includes the natural history and biology of pollinators and beneficial insects and their interactions with native plants. She also presents on ecological landscape restoration, enhancing pollinator habitat, and climate change resiliency.

Maddy Kobs is one of Pheasants Forever Farm Bill biologists and operates out of Menomonie. She has done great work with the habitat organization and her favorite native plant species is Cardinal flower, Lobelia cardinalis. Our farm bill biologists are employed by Pheasants Forever in partnership with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) and the Wisconsin DNR to implement wildlife habitat conservation on private lands using Farm Bill programs, like CRP or EQIP, and other applicable wildlife conservation programs. They also meet with local PF chapters and other conservation partners to influence habitat management restoration efforts across the state. The Wisconsin PF biologists are highly trained and motivated professionals focused on delivering habitat in your area.

Donald Mitchell obtained an M.S. degree in Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota and has conducted field studies of hummingbirds and the plants they pollinate in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado and California. He is a federally-permitted hummingbird bander and former Vice President of the Minnesota Ornithologists’ Union. He is a Goodhue County Master Gardener and attracts hundreds of hummingbirds annually to his garden near the Mississippi River in Red Wing, Minnesota.
